In a universe covered through an infinite sea of sand, there is a island called the Mud Whale. In its inside lies an ancient city, where the vast majority of its people are believed to become”Marked,” a double-edged attribute that grants them supernatural skills at the price of an untimely departure. Chakuro is the village archivist; young and inquisitive, he also spends his time inspecting the discovery of contemporary islands. But every one is similar to the remainder –left handed save to the remnants of individuals who dwelt there long ago. Throughout the expedition, they discover vestiges of a primitive civilization. And inside of its crumbling remains, Chakuro finds a girl who can change his fate and the world within the Mud Whale as he understands it.
