After the conclusion to Hakuouki Chizuru Yukimura, Shinsengumi and their commander are forced to flee Kyoto. They set sail for Edo. Vice-commander Toshizou Hijikikata is appointed acting commander in the absence of their commander Isami Kondou. Hijikata is struggling with extra leadership duties, which worries everyone around him. But he also has a newfound uncontrollable thirst for blood. Hijikata’s insatiable urge is not limited to him; it is also driving some of his subordinates crazy.
Kondou finally returns to the emperor with the orders to defend the castle and a new name: the Kouyou Chunbutai. However, war is a volatile time when the balance of power shifts quickly and allegiances can change. Hakuouki Hekketsuroku Chizuru continues her search for her father and follows Shinsengumi to the heart of war.
