It is 1863, and Japan’s long-standing political divisions are exploding into violence in the streets and murder. The Tokugawa Shogunate sends a new force made up of samurai called Roshigumi to help the Aizu forces at Kyoto. The new “police”, however, are not a cohesive force. Assassinations have already divided them into two different factions. The Serizawa Kamo, a brutal and violent leader, leads the stronger faction while Isami Kondo, a more humble but assertive one is in charge of the smaller. Ryunosuke is led by the Serizawa, while Ryunosuke is dragged along with a pack of wolves. He is forced to become a slave through blood debt and hates the samurai. As he observes the lives of the other half, he realizes that Japan and himself may have a chance if Kondo steps up to take down Serizawa.
