Makoto Shinjou, a Japanese photojournalist, travels deep into the deserted plains of Asran to photograph the activities of the mercenaries that destroy the country’s enemies. Shin Kazama is a Japanese ace pilot, who was tricked into signing a contract by his ex-best friend. He lost his airline pilot career and was denied the opportunity to marry Ryoko Tsugumo. Shin now has three options to leave Area 88 to return to Japan. He can either serve three years in the mercenary unit, earn US$1.5million, or desert the base and risk his life.
