Phantoms are supernatural entities like ghosts and youkai, which were previously thought to be superstition. When a virus infects the brain, the perception of the world changes. The mythical creatures are shown to have lived alongside humans for the entirety of their lives. The virus also has a significant impact on the next generation, allowing them special abilities to combat dangerous phantoms.
Haruhiko Ichijou (left) and Mai Kawakami (right) were two of those who were granted this power. Haruhiko can summon and seal phantoms using drawings, while Mai infuses the power of elements into martial arts. They form Team E of Hosea Academy, which is dedicated to the treatment of these mischievous creatures. Musaigen No Phantom World is a story about a group friends who deal with the daily troubles of phantoms in a world that combines the surreal and real.
