To get nine-year-old Ren, the previous man who handled him with any kind of kindness was murdered and he’s shunned by what’s left of his loved ones. With no parents, no actual family, and anywhere to visit, Ren flows into the confusing roads and alleyways of Shibuya. Throughout the twists and turns of this alleys, Ren stumbles to the intimidating Kumatetsu, who directs him into the monster kingdom of Shibuten.To get Kumatetsu, the boy represents an opportunity for him to become a candidate to substitute the Lord of this kingdom after he retires. While almost unmatched in battle, Kumatetsu’s cold character leaves him without a disciples to instruct without a way to prove he’s worthy of getting the Lord’s successor.While both discuss distinct objectives, they agree to assist each other so as to achieve them. Kumatetsu hunts for appreciation; Ren, currently called Kyuuta, hunts for the home that he never had. As the years pass , it begins to become clear that both are assisting each other in more ways than they’d initially thought. Maybe there has ever been a gap between these, a boy and a monster, than either of both realized.
